BLUEFIELD, Va. —
Pauline Dorothy Neal Hawkins, 89, of Bluefield, Va., passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 8, 2013 at her daughter’s home in South Daytona.
Miss Polly, as she was called by some, was born in Bluefield, Va. and was the epitome of a true Southern lady with a wonderful sense of humor and a graceful manner. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Bluefield; where the back row was always reserved for a certain group of beautiful ladies. Pauline loved tending her garden, singing and enjoying the company of her friends and family. She was retired from the Department of Social Services in Tazewell, Va.
In addition to her parents, John Edward and Vesta Neal, she was predeceased by her husband, William Preston Hawkins of Bluefield, Va.; brother, Raymond Neal and sister, Aileen Hale.
Survivors include daughters, Bobbie Yarbrough (husband, Joseph) of South Daytona; Jackie Johnson (husband, Command Sergeant Major Randall H.) of South Daytona; Ginger Hawkins of Bluefield, Va.; and son, John “Jeep” Preston Hawkins (wife, Angie) of New Smyrna Beach. She was also survived by sisters, Edna Bone of Bluefield, W.Va.; Shirley Sargent (husband, Hershal) of Columbus, Ohio; brother, Jack Neal (wife, Linda) of Blackstone, Va.
Additional survivors include grandchildren, Gabriel Cox (wife, Angie) of South Daytona; Chase Johnson (wife, Megan) of Port Orange; Savannah Hawkins of New Smyrna Beach; Joey Yarbrough of South Daytona; and great-grandson, Liam David Cox of South Daytona as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and many good friends in Virginia and Florida.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Bluefield, Va. with Dr. Don Scott and the Rev. Brad Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Grandview Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Glen Hager, Louis Romano, Andrew Hosey, Keith Spencer, Rodney Price and J.T. Keene.
Friends may visit with the family today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Choir, 200 S. College Ave., Bluefield, VA 24605.
