BLUEFIELD, Va. —
Alvin William “Pappy” Dillard Sr., 79, of Bailey Switch, Bluefield, Va., died Monday, Jan. 7, 2013 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Gratton, Va. and was a son of the late Alvin Henry Dillard and Ruby Jones Dillard.
Mr. Dillard was a former driver for Smith Transfer Co. and retired from Yellow Transfer Co. He attended church at the Calvary Baptist Chapel Church in Wittens Mill.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolly Abel Dillard and by a sister, Juanita Sluss.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Sue McPeak Dillard; sons, Alvin W. Dillard Jr. and wife Elaine of Wytheville, Va., Ronnie Dillard and wife Shirley of North Tazewell, Va.; daughter, Sandy Rowlett of Bluefield, Va.; stepdaughter, Carol Isaacs of Pulaski, Va.; half bother, Bobby Bales of Frederick, Md.; half sisters, Hazel Lazarda of Charlotte, N.C., Pat Harris of Honaker, Va.; four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Va. with Brother Chuck Trent officiating. Burial will follow in the Grandview Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Thompson, James Hubbard, Josh Dillard, and other family and friends.
Friends may visit with the family today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va. is serving the Dillard family.
