BERWIND —
Maudie Harris Johnson, age 88, of Berwind, W.Va., died Friday, January 4, 2013 at Carilion Tazewell Community Hospital in Tazewell, Va. Born April 12, 1924 in Council, Va., she was a daughter of the late Hampton Harris Sr. and Ora B. Hurt Harris.
She was a member of the Berwind Pentecostal Church at Berwind, W.Va.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Estel Johnson; two sons, Franklin Johnson and Millard Harris; two sons-in-law, Mike Harmon and Ralph Adams; five sisters and seven brothers. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by four daughters, Ruby Mitchell and husband Andrew of Mt. Holly, N.C., Iris Beavers and husband Linzia of Newhall, W.Va., Kathleen Adams of Raysal, W.Va., and Genevieve Harmon of Newhall, W.Va.; three sons, Robert E. Johnson and wife Delores, Ralph Johnson and wife Lois with whom Maudie made her home, and Michael L. Johnson and wife Mae all of Berwind, W.Va.; twenty grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Brenda Harris of Honaker, Va.; sister-in-law, Julie Johnson of Council, Va..
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Monday, January 7, 2013 at Berwind Pentecostal Church at Berwind, W.Va. with Pastor Randy Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at the Johnson Cemetery near Council, Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the church from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2013.
