Franklin James “Jim” Patton Sr., 70, of Dogwood Lane, Princeton, died early Thursday morning, Jan. 3, 2013 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a series of illnesses.
Born June 2, 1942, at Big Sandy, he was the son of the late Charley Patton and Eula Holland Patton Hamilton.
Jim attended school at Gary, and served with United States Army during the Vietnam conflict. During his service he received Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
Jim and his dedicated wife Janey owned and operated Service Master Professional Cleaning in Princeton since 1984. Jim was instrumental in the formation of the Greater Princeton Little League complex at Gardner where he also served as a coach for the Little League, Junior League and Senior League teams. He has also served as Commissioner and Coach in the Princeton Independent Little League Football. Jim was a member of Johnston Chapel Baptist Church on Halls Ridge Road in Princeton.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Lee Patton and a sister, Shelby Jean St. Clair.
He will be remembered and sadly missed by his loving wife of 32 years, Janey Beeman Patton; his four children, Franklin James “Jim” Patton Jr., Melissa Patton, Matthew and wife Jessica Patton, and Katherine (Katie) and husband Joshua Francis all of Princeton. He is also survived by six grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Summer, Alex, Andrew, M.J., Eli and Bowen Patton; and eight siblings, Charley Jr. and Sue Patton of Elbert, JK and wife Doris Patton of White Pine Tenn., Donald Ray and wife Tonia of Jacksonville Fla., Richard Thomas and wife Teresa Patton of Iaeger, Drema and husband Albee Jessee of Cleveland, OH, Sharon and husband Ballard Whitt of Beckley, Joyce and husband Carl Simmons, and Randell and wife, Cathy Patton of Roderfield. He will also be missed by a host of nephews and nieces, including, Randi Helmandollar and Brandy Saddler who called him “Daddy Jim”.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory with Pastor's Dr. John King, Jim Simmons and Jim Nofsinger officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Pallbearers will be dear friends and family.
The family will receive friends today (Saturday) 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
