BLUEFIELD —
Raymond Johnson Farmer, age 88, of Route 3 Box 450 (116 Dahlia Street), Bluefield, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 at Charleston Area Medical Center.
Born on Sept. 6, 1924 in Goodwill, he was a son of the late Thomas and Sarah Spencer Farmer. He had been a lifelong resident of Bluefield and was a member of the Jesus name Church. He was a retired coal miner and was a veteran of the US Navy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Rex Farmer.
Survivors include wife, Nina Griffith Farmer of the home, two sons, Randy Farmer and wife Dinah of Rogersville, Ala., and Blain Farmer and wife Carola of Elkhorn, Ky.; two daughters, Sarah Riggs and husband Larry of Bluefield and Fern Hartwell and husband Bane of New York; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Farmer and wife Bessie of Camp Creek and Larry Farmer and Sue; six sisters, Helen Moody, Eva Mae Farmer, Myrtle “Dot” Carver, Mildred Murphy, Juanita Howard and Sandy Mash.
Graveside services will be conducted today (Saturday), Jan. 5, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with Pastor Doug Steel officiating. Burial will follow with friends and family serving as pallbearers. Cody Farmer will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Those wishing to attend services are asked to meet at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell on Saturday at 2:45 p.m.
