NEWPORT NEWS, Va. —
Ada Mae “Pat” Dodson, age 89, of Newport News, Va., formerly of Tazewell, Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013 at her home in Newport News, Va. Born Dec. 1, 1923 at Pulaski, Va., she was a daughter of the late Preston and Ada Mae Davis Amburn.
She was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church in Tazewell, Va. Mrs. Dodson was a charter member of Fincastle Garden Club and a former member of the Carilion Tazewell Community Hospital Auxiliary. While living in Newport News, she was active in all the activities and outings that were part of “The Newport” retirement home where she resided. Mrs. Dodson especially enjoyed bingo with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Dodson.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Dodson Taylor and husband, Henry of Jacksonville, Fla., and Diane Dodson Corley and husband, David of Newport News, Va.; two granddaughters, Amanda Taylor and Katy Taylor Williams; one great-granddaughter, Taylor Ray Williams; two sisters, Doris Tabor of Bluefield, Va. and Bonnie Weiser of Roanoke, Va.; and two brothers, Orrin Amburn of Connecticut and David Amburn of Bluefield, Va.
Committal services and entombment will be conducted at noon Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Bluefield, Va. with the Reverend Larry Ramey officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to a favorite charity.
