PRINCETON —
Shirley Ann Simmons Brown, 77, of 6 Valley Drive in Princeton, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at her residence. Born Jan. 17, 1935 in Marston, Mo., she was the daughter of Martha Christine “Mama Tine” Scobey Simmons of Princeton and the late Marvin J. Simmons.
She was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State College in Cape Girardeau, Mo. with a bachelor of science degree in education. Before moving to Princeton in 1982, Shirley retired from the school system in Wapakoneta, OH where she taught social studies, government and economics. Following his retirement from Pepsi, Inc. in Princeton, Shirley and her husband Jack became the owners and operators of Service Cleaners in Princeton. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bluefield and enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends. Shirley was an avid golfer and served as secretary-treasurer of the Women's Golf Association at the Princeton Elks Country Club. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Dina Beth Brown; and one brother, Terry V. Simmons.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband of fifty-eight years, Jack C. Brown of Princeton; one daughter, Christina Kay Andrews and husband Ned of Waynesfield, OH; three grandchildren, Carrie Klosterman and husband John, Michael Andrews and significant other, Megan Keith, and Todd Andrews; and three great-grandchildren, Jacob Klosterman, Molly Klosterman, and Anna Klosterman.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Shirley will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church in Bluefield with Dr. W.D. Hasty officiating. Friends may call at the church from noon until the service hour on Saturday. In keeping with Shirley's wishes she will be cremated following the service. Memorial contributions in honor of Shirley may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Bluefield, 208 Tazewell Ave., Bluefield, WV 24701.
