NIMITZ —
Doris Ann Stokes, 79 of Nimitz, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012 at Summers County A.R.H. Hospital in Hinton following a short illness. Born June 15, 1933 in Honaker, Va., she was the daughter of the late Lester M. and Thelma Inez Stevens Sykes.
Ms. Stokes was a graduate of Beaver High School in Bluefield and Marshall University in Huntington. She was a former Lab Technician for Bluefield Regional Hospital and retired from the Mercer County Health Center. She and her husband also operated KOA Campground at Pipestem for 20 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hinton and enjoyed cooking, painting, gardening and caring for animals.
She was preceded in death by infant twins.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, James Stokes; one son, William Stokes and wife, Charleen, of New Martinsville, W.Va.; two daughters, Debbie Stokes Alder and husband, Dennis, of Nimitz, and Sandra Boden and husband, Neil, of Beckley; five grandchildren, Kelly Alder-Janes and husband, Sam, Brian Alder, Miranda Stokes, Kevin Stokes, and David Hensley and wife, Tara; two great-grandchildren, Parker Janes and Natalie Hensley.
At her request, the body has been cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
