Alford V. “AL” Baldwin

WYTHEVILLE, Va. — Alford V. “AL” Baldwin, C.L.U., of Wytheville, a native of Tazewell County, passed away Nov. 11, 2012 at  the Wythe County Community Hospital.

He served in the military in Germany and Alaska and met his wife, Irma, in Anchorage at a Viennes Waltz Concert held at the Anchorage Westward Hotel Ballroom. He sold life and health insurance and real estate in Alaska and loved hunting and fishing in its many lakes and rivers.

In 1989, he became a farmer in Staunton, Va. where he later developed the farm into the exclusive Baldwin Hills Estates.

A man with many interests and great love for his family, he bought a farm in Bland County in 1990 and raised sheep, registered Black Angus, and ostriches, all while continuing in the real estate and appraisal business. He retired at the age of 70 to play golf and travel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lector Ann and Edna Cochran Baldwin; sister, Wanda Baldwin.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Irma Baldwin; son, Alford D. Baldwin and Wanda Smith; daughter, Amanda E. Pulliam and Kevin Jones; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy Baldwin and Pat, Joe Baldwin and Dorothy; sisters and brothers-in-law, Clara Baldwin Rasnake and Mike, Dolly Baldwin Shrader and Eddie, Shelia Baldwin Addair and Glen; grandchildren, Jade, Trenton, Thomas. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. in the Wytheville Golf and Country Club conducted by Pastor Joe Mack Taylor and Pastor Bob Smith of Claypool Hill, Va.
