Josephine Adkins Pruett
NORTH TAZEWELL, Va. — Josephine Adkins Pruett, age 93 of North Tazewell, Va., died Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the Mayfair House in Claypool, Va. She was born December 18, 1919 at Witten’s Mill, Va., and was a daughter of the late Enoch and Amanda Evelyn Lambert Adkins. Mrs. Pruett was of the Christian faith and was a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church at North Tazewell, Va., where she taught Sunday school and held several offices. She was a former “Pink Lady” volunteer at Carilion Tazewell Community Hospital, where she served faithfully for over twenty five years; she also volunteered at the Historic Crab Orchard Museum in the Pisgah community of Tazewell, Va. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a lady who will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max Lloyd Pruett; four sisters, Elvina Vencill, Elizabeth Hager, Euva Martin, and Mary Helmondollar; four brothers, George Adkins, Walter Adkins, John Adkins and Jim Adkins; son-in-law, William Deskins. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter, Joy Sue Pruett Deskins, of Tazewell, Va.; her son, Lloyd Victor Pruett and wife, Bonnie, of Princeton, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Vickie Sue Pruett, Keith Pruett, Greg Deskins and wife, Cindy and Amee Beth Deskins; two great-grandchildren, Katie Deskins and Adam Deskins; several nieces and nephews; other family members and friends also survive.
Funeral services for Josephine Adkins Pruett will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Hurst–Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va., with the Reverend Don Watkins officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. The grandchildren and great-grandchildren will carry their beloved grandmother to her final resting place.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013.
