Carol Shrewsbury

LASHMEET — On August 14, 1944, my best friend, confidant and mother was born in Stevenson. My mother was truly a wonderful person and had many talents. She was known to many as one of the best cooks around and took pride in preparing meals for her husband and family. She was a true wife and partner to Dad. She never complained about rising super early to send her coal mining husband off to work and then work all day to make sure he had a clean home and hearty dinner waiting for him. They did everything together and built a home that she loved and a home away from home at Smith Mountain Lake. Mom was an extremely talented seamstress. She made my unbelievably beautiful and complicated wedding dress along with some of the madrigal dresses for friends. She could sew, crochet or create anything but it was God who she loved dearly who used her for his weaving of a family who loved her more than anything. We will be sad only because she is not here with us now but will rejoice when we meet her again in heaven. God took her to her new home on Monday, March 18 at 7:55 a.m. Because as her example as a Christian we know we can have peace knowing she is no longer suffering but just setting up housekeeping waiting for her family.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Darrell Shrewsbury, who saw to it all her needs were met and took great care of her. Me, her daughter, Darra who loved her dearly and my husband Anthony and her two grandsons, Samuel and Zachary, who meant so much to her. She used to say, “did we have a life before Sam and Zack?” Going to their ballgames and anything they had scheduled, as well as being available to them, was an absolute must for her. She is also survived by sisters, Sandra Acord and her husband Everette, Anita Mullins, Willa (Boots) Milam; brothers, Wade Perdue, Hobert Lee Perdue and his wife Elaine, Jim Perdue and his wife Brenda and John Perdue; brothers-in-law, Curtis Shrewsbury, Mason Shrewsbury and his wife Anita, Larry Shrewsbury and his wife Dreama, Roger Shrewsbury, Ronnie Shrewsbury and his wife Renee, Gerald Shrewsbury and his wife Vivian and David Cordle; sisters-in-law, Freda Covell and her husband Ron and Sharon Shrewsbury.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hobert Lee Perdue and Willa Mae Rhinehart Perdue; a brother, Forest Perdue; sisters-in-law, Elvia McKinney, Gay Shrewsbury, who lived close by at the lake and if you knew them you know that you just may hear the laughter from their long talks all the way from heaven; a sister-in-law, Shirleen Cordle; brothers-in-law, Ernest Shrewsbury, Bert McKinney and Johnny Monk; and sister-in-law, Mildred Perdue. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

I love you Mom.

Arrangements by Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.bailey-kirk.com.
