BLUEFIELD, Va. —
Russell Leon Vanhoozer, 48, of Stowers Hill Road, Bluefield, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born March 12, 1965 in Bluefield, W.Va. and is the son of Freddie Vanhoozer of Bluefield, Va. and Ruth Alley Proffitt of Bluefield, Va.
Russell worked for Flowers Bakery in Bluefield for 24 years before coming disabled and prior to that had worked for Wilson Tree Co. He attended church at the Bluefield, Va. Church of God and his hobbies were watching NASCAR racing and attending Bikers Week at Daytona Beach and Myrtle Beach.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Thomas (Tom) Alley Sr. and Issac Lee Vanhoozer and Elizabeth Vanhoozer Baldwin and by his stepfather, Larry Proffitt.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two daughters, Danielle Vanhoozer of Bluefield, Va., Ashley Vanhoozer and her children, Aaliyah and Azayah Vanhoozer of Bluefield, Va.; grandmother, Mary Alley of Bluefield, Va.; his first love, Rhonda Aliff of Bluefield, W.Va.; stepmother, Elizabeth Sue Vanhoozer of Bluefield, Va.; sister, Rosanna Puckett and husband Steven of Bluefield, W.Va.; half sister, Leigh Anne Vanhoozer of Maryland; stepsister, Rhonda Tracey and husband Joe of Illinois; stepbrothers, Barry Proffitt and companion Denise of Bluefield, W.Va., Ricky Proffitt and wife Missy of Princeton, W.Va., Scottie Proffitt of Princeton, W.Va.; aunts, uncles, cousins and best friends.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, March 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bluefield, Va. Church of God with the Rev. Tony Ellis officiating. In honoring his wishes, he has been cremated.
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until hour of service.
Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va. is serving the Vanhoozer family.
