COLUMBUS, Ohio —
Margaret Olivia “Libby” Saunders, 75, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Tazewell, Va., departed this life on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at the Mt. Carmel Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, following an extended illness.
Libby was born November 16, 1936 in Tazewell, Va. to the late James Arthur and Ruth E. Higginbotham. Libby was preceded in death by her brothers, James A. Higginbotham Jr. and George Alexander Higginbotham II and one sister, Newel Ruth McCoy.
Libby was a graduate of the Tazewell County Public School system and later attended Bluefield State College, Bluefield, W.Va., where she majored in Music Education. At an early age, Libby joined the Wilbur Memorial United Methodist Church. She married the late David Phinehas Saunders of Bluefield, Va. and moved to Yonkers, N.Y. From this union two children were born, David Phinehas Saunders Jr. and Michelle Anne Saunders both of Tazewell, Va.
Libby was employed by and retired from the General Motors Corporation, Tarrytown, N.Y. In 2006, she moved to Columbus, Ohio where she currently resided. Libby was fun loving, enjoyed music, fishing, traveling, cooking and spending time with family and friends. She had a generous spirit and one of her greatest joys was buying gifts for her children, family and friends. Libby had a passion for pretty things and enjoyed dressing up and wearing jewelry. Holidays were special to Libby and she always looked forward to coming home.
Her memory will be treasured by those she leaves behind: Son, David Saunders Jr. and his wife, Vivian, daughter, Michelle Saunders all of Tazewell, Va.; grandchildren, Tonya and her husband, Marshall Taylor, David Saunders III, and Whitney Saunders; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Kendyl Taylor; and three sisters, Mary Anderson of Columbus, Ohio, Sheilah Brown and husband, The Reverend Robert I. Brown of Beckley, W.Va., and Jeanette Bryant and husband, Earl of Detroit, Mich. Libby also leaves many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with the Reverend Jack Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, Va. Pallbearers will be Freddie Thompson, Ronnie Thompson, Tommy Thompson, George Higginbotham III, Chris Brown, Robie Brown, Mike Ramos, David P. Saunders III, and Fred Johnson.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
