Marshall “Bud” Armstrong

GALAX, Va. — Marshall “Bud” Armstrong, age 89, of Galax, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at his home. He was born July 28, 1923 to the late Florence and Marshall Armstrong in Norton, Va.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by wife of 52 years, Margaret Anita Armstrong; son, Charles Roger Armstrong; brother, James Armstrong; granddaughter, Sandra “Sissy” Armstrong.

Marshall “Bud” Armstrong lived most of his life in Bluefield, W.Va. and Rocky Gap, Va. He lived with his son in Galax, Va. for his final six years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and also served over 40 years as a member of the Elk’s Lodge. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, both in World War II and Korea and was awarded a Bronze Star and a Victory Medal.

Survivors include one son, Barry Dixon Armstrong Sr. of Galax; three grandchildren, Curtis Armstrong of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Barry D. Armstrong Jr. and Katie Armstrong both of Rocky Gap, Va.; three great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Marshall and Angelina; several nieces and nephews; very special friend, former daughter-in-law and former care giver, Jody Armstrong.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 12, 2012 at Twin County Funerals Sanctuary beginning at 7 p.m. Pastor Chuck Edwards will officiate. Military Rites conducted by Sparta VFW Post No. 7034. Family will receive friends two hours prior to service from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. A burial at sea with military honors conducted by the Navy will be held at a later date.
