KNOXVILLE, Tenn —
Joseph Edwin (Joey) Oliver, age 57, of Knoxville, Tenn., formerly of Bluefield, W.Va., went to be with the Lord early Wednesday morning, October 10, 2012, after a five month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Joey was a member of Heritage Fellowship Church in Oak Ridge, Tenn. He was an environmental engineer with Norfolk Southern Railroad for thirty-four years. Joey was a graduate of West Virginia University. He was an avid reader and loved Mountaineer football. Joey was a loving and devoted husband, father and papa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Oliver Sr. and Ruth Stewart Oliver.
Joey is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sharon Oliver; daughters, Jennifer Oliver Shelton and husband, Timothy of Knoxville, Tenn., Allison Oliver Short and husband, Carl of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Lydia Grace Shelton and Timothy Elijah (Eli) Shelton; brothers, Gene Oliver and wife, Carol of Bland, Va., Steve Oliver and wife, Amy of Bluefield, W.Va.; three nieces and a nephew.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:45 p.m. on Friday at Heritage Fellowship Church, 121 North Illinois Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN 37830 followed by a Celebration of Life at 7 p.m. with Dr. Paul Metler officiating. Family and friends will gather at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Monte Vista Cemetery in Bluefield, W.Va., for graveside services.
