SPRINGVILLE, Va. — Edith Ilene (Snook) Stevenson Turner, age 87, of Springville, Va., passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, Va. The eldest of eleven children, she was born December 3, 1922 at North Tazewell, Va., to the late Robert Mose Stevenson and Flora Alice Lawson Stevenson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Turner; siblings, Louise Harrison, Nancy Combs, Ruby Christian, Virginia Lester, infant Robert Stevenson, Billie Matney, and John Henry (Hammer) Stevenson. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs. Turner was a member of Mountainview Church of Christ at Springville. She loved the Lord and her family. She was a wonderful cook who made the best German chocolate cake, macaroni and cheese, chicken and dumplings, and biscuits and gravy. Her days were made brighter due to the special love and care of her niece, Tina Stevenson Blankenship.
She is survived by her children, Judy Curry and husband, Ronnie of Colonial Heights, Va., Larry Turner and wife, Linda of Bluefield, Va., and Bob Turner of Pennington Gap, Va. (formerly of Springville); one sister, Hazel Combs of Cliffield; two brothers, Roy Lee (Tro) Stevenson of Belfast, Va. and William Eugene (Pokey) Stevenson and wife, Lois of Abbs Valley, Va.; six grandchildren, Sherry McCoy and husband, Mark, and Angela Haden and husband, Lin of Colonial Heights, Va., Chris Turner and wife, April of Tazewell, Va., Chad Turner and wife, Sufia of San Jose, Calif., Whitney Elton and husband, Kevin of Bristol, Va., and Kyla Turner of Chicago, Ill.; seven great-grandchildren, Margaret and Ellen McCoy, Trey and Brent Haden, Parker Elton and Guye and Hanna Turner; numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and entombment will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Bluefield, Va. with Pastor Lacy Brooks officiating.
The family will receive friends at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, Va. from 6-8:30 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2010.
