PRINCETON — Virginia Whittaker Queen, 97, of the Halls Ridge Road, Princeton, died peacefully Tuesday morning, March 16, 2010 at her residence.
Born December 18, 1912, in Princeton, she was the daughter of the late James Walter Whittaker and Eula Cahill Whittaker.
Mrs. Queen was educated in Oakvale and Princeton. She was a retired employee for Maidenform Corporation in Princeton with 30 years of service.
Mrs. Queen was a member of the Kee Street United Methodist Church in Princeton where she had served on various boards and committees, a member of the Willing Workers Sunday school class and the Weatherford Service Guild. Mrs. Queen loved her Lord and serving her church. Mrs. Queen will be remembered by those who knew her as a lady, warm and loving, and she will be missed by many.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Queen; her son, Jimmie Neil Queen; siblings, Bernice Whittaker, Perry Whittaker and J. H. “Buddy” Whittaker.
Survivors include, her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Jeanie and Melvin Dunn of Princeton; two grandsons, Michael and Debbie Dunn, David Dunn; two great-grandchildren, Melissa Alexander and Kathleen Dunn; siblings, Jack O. Whittaker, Mildred Quesenberry, Nancy Smith and husband A. G., all of Princeton, Bernadine Brown and husband P.T. of Pontiac, Mich.
A service of celebration will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2010 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Tom Hill and Aubrey Whitlow officiating. Burial will follow in the Queen/Whittaker Cemetery on the Halls Ridge in Princeton.
A time of gathering and sharing will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Family and friends may share online concerns and messages via www.memorialfd.com
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Michael and David Dunn; her nephew, Jeff Whittaker; and men of the church. Freddie Cox will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
The honor of serving the Queen family has been given to the Memorial Funeral Directory & Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
