SALEM, Va. —
James Bruce Guynn, 94, of the Richfield Recovery & Care Canter in Salem, Va., formerly of Princeton, died Thursday, December 13, 2012 at his residence. Born May 12, 1918 in Roanoke, Va., he was the son of the late James David Guynn and Martha Jane Carter Guynn.
He was a graduate of Eggleston High School and was a pitcher on the school baseball team. Bruce was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II in the Army Signal Corp in the China, Burma, and India Theatres. He was a dedicated member of the Masonic Brotherhood, having served as Past Worshipful Master of Princeton Masonic Lodge #134. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Princeton and a member of the Princeton Elks Lodge #1459 and formerly sang in the Elks Chorus.
Bruce was retired from the Virginian and the Norfolk & Western Railroad with forty years service. After his retirement, Bruce and his late wife Lucile spent time in Florida and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Most recently, they had been residents of Knollwood Apartments in Salem, Va. and lately Richfield Recovery and Care Center in Salem.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucile McFarlane Guynn; two brothers, Frank Guynn and Everett Guynn; three sisters, Pauline Hoover, Vivian Vance, and Hazel Ballard.
He is survived by two sons, James Bruce “Buddy” Guynn Jr. and wife Marilyn of Fort Myers, Fla. and Raymond Everett Guynn and friend Marsha Perry of Raleigh, N.C.; three grandchildren, Amanda Guynn, Ashley Guynn, and Matthew Guynn; two brothers, Garland David “Bud” Guynn and wife Nan of Vinton, Va. and Herbert Burl Guynn and wife Jeanette of Winchester, Va.; brother-in-law, Raymond McFarlane and wife Polly of Salem, Va.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Dr. David Dockery officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with the Princeton Masonic Lodge #134 conducting Masonic graveside rites. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour on Wednesday.
