POCAHONTAS, Va —
Clara Mae Westmoreland, age, 91, of Pocahontas, Va., went peacefully to be with her Savior and Lord on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at her home in Paradise. Until recently she was very active in, and a lifelong member of The Church By Christ Jesus in Pocahontas.
Born in Pocahontas on February 25, 1921, the daughter of Henry Mack Gravley and Sara Etta Fox Gravley, she married Rev. Ernest Westmoreland on May 16, 1938 and they spent most of their lives together on Paradise Lane in Pocahontas. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, neighbor and friend. She loved working with her husband canning vegetables and fruits from their garden, cooking, reading, making afghans and gospel music. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her husband of 65 years, who went home to be with Jesus in 2004, her parents, three brothers and two sisters, she was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Denise Kay Badorek Milani in 2003 and son-in-law, Jerry Pendleton in 2011.
Surviving are daughters, Sharon Dawn Badorek and husband Walter of Klamath Falls, Ore., Aletta Jo Pendleton of Princeton, W.Va.; son, Ernest Lee Westmoreland and wife Valerie of Roanoke, Va.; grandchildren, Cathy Baber, Michael Badorek, Donna Bowman, Donald Bettis, Brooke Whitney and Ashley Westmoreland; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces and special nephew, Jerry Gravley and wife Hellen of Pocahontas.
Viewing will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2013 and the funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 8, 2013 at Rodriguez Funeral Home in Pocahontas, Va. with the Rev. Michael Gibson officiating. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Interment will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va.
