GREENSBORO, N.C. —
Deacon Walter Lewis Sr., 80, of 831 Franklin Blvd., Greensboro, N.C., departed this life on January 29, 2013 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, N.C.
Born in Arista, W.Va. on August 27, 1932, he was the son of William H. Lewis Sr. and Mary B. Woodson Lewis. Walter attended the public schools in West Virginia. He joined the United States Army where he served in the Korean conflict.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lewis of Greensboro, N.C.; five children, Donnette (James) Dixon of Charlotte, N.C., Walter (Avis) Lewis Jr., Michael James Lewis, Kimberly (Edward) Summers and Lisa Lewis-Clark all of Greensboro, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Teasha (Will) Williams, Crystal Dixon of Charlotte, N.C., Christopher Brown, Marissa J. Clark, Walter Lewis III, Asia Lewis, and Alea Lewis, all of Greensboro, N.C., and Michael James Lewis II of Bluefield, W.Va.; two sisters, Mary B. Bellinger, and Evangelist Betty Malvoisin of Long Island, N.Y.; two brothers, Reverend Doctor Paul Lewis of Columbia, S.C., and Deacon Jerry (Norma) Lewis of Washington, D.C.; and a host of stepchildren, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and friends.
Homegoing services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at House of Prayer, 214 Church Street, Bluefield, W.Va. with Bishop George Heartwell officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton, W.Va.
