TAZEWELL, Va. —
Robert Eugene “Bob” Stallard, age 65, received the eternal reward he longed for when he passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at Tazewell Community Hospital.
He was a resident of Tazewell, Va. for over 40 years after spending his formative years in Bandy, Va. and graduating from Richlands High School in 1967 where his artwork still adorns the gymnasium wall. He was born on Jan. 6, 1948, (a birthday he proudly shared in 2004 with his grandson Gage) in Amonate, to Edsel Eugene and Emma Lou Stallard, who preceded him in death.
He was previously employed by US Steel and then Consolidation Coal Company as a draftsman until ill health forced an early retirement. He was a gifted artist and enjoyed playing golf, drawing and painting, reading, writing his words of wisdom to pass on to his children, visiting with family and friends, and attending church. He was a man of great faith who studied his Bible and steadfastly trusted God's promises. He was a member of Bandy Freewill Baptist Church for many years where he enjoyed singing gospel music as a part of the Master's Men and other gospel ensembles; more recently he attended City on a Hill Church in Cedar Bluff.
He is survived by one son, Robert E. “Bobby” Stallard II and wife Marjorie, of Bluefield, Va.; one daughter, Beth Stallard Jackson and husband Rick of Bluefield, Va.; one sister, Leona Brewster and husband Jim of Tazewell and their daughter Kimberly of Redlands, Calif. He was the proud and adoring grandfather of five grandchildren, Gabi Jackson, Gage Jackson, Riley Stallard, Robert Stallard III and Ryan Siders. He is also survived by his former spouse, Connie Tolley of Roanoke, Va.
Funeral services for Robert Eugene “Bob” Stallard will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Va. with Barry Absher officiating. Friends may call Friday afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home; 1401 Second Street, Richlands, Virginia. In keeping with his wishes, the body will be cremated with interment at a later date.
