GRUNDY, Va. —
Emma Jean Skeens Addington, 71 years of age, of Grundy, Va., went to be with the Lord, Sunday, January 27, 2013 at her residence. Born April 12, 1941 in Buchanan County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Willie and Josie Sparks Skeens.
Emma enjoyed canning, cooking and helping others. She helped raise many children in the community and was a dedicated Christian and faithful member of the Harman Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Mark Elswick, Bill Joe Elswick and Edward Eugene Addington; brothers, Jimmy Sparks, Agie Skeens, Wallace Skeens and Dottie Skeens; sisters, Thelma Stiner, Liza Jane Meadows and Stella Stacy.
Survivors include her loving husband of 30 years, Joseph Edwards Addington of Grundy, Va.; daughters, Nancy Carol Elswick Sims and husband Roy of Chattanooga, Tenn., Melissa Elswick Davis and husband Corey of Church Hill, Tenn., Tammy Fletcher and husband Michael of Maxie, Va., Pamela Monk and husband Ralph of Claypool Hill, Va.; sons, Gregory Todd Elswick and wife Susan of Big Rock, Va., Bobby Harold Addington and wife Roxanne of Racine, Wis., Dean Addington and wife Kathy of Wise, Va.; sisters, Betty Dales, Pauline Farmer and Etta Street all of Richlands, Va.; brothers, Bill Skeens of Abingdon, Va., Delph Skeens of Big Rock, Va. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Emma Jean Skeens Addington will be conducted at the Harman Freewill Baptist Church, Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Ronnie Sliger, Josh Bowman and Eddie Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Va.
Active pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Harman Freewill Baptist Church, Harman, Va.
The family will receive friends, Tuesday, January 29, 2013 after 6:00 p.m. at the Harman Freewill Baptist Church. Evening services will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
