BLUEFIELD, Va. —
Ruby Katherine Keen Austin, of the Bluefield-Tazewell Road, Bluefield, Va., died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. She was born in Keen Mountain, Va. and was a daughter of the late Harlan Keen and Orpha Matney Keen.
She was a business owner, formerly Ruby’s Restaurant and Motel, Austin Trailer Park and Austin’s Nursery and other Rental properties. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bluefield, Va., member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Memorial Post 9696 and member of the Bluefield Elks Lodge.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bascom Slemp “Buck” Austin; sisters, Garnett Barker, Grace Compton, Jessie Adkins, Josephine Sutherland and Georgia Greear; and by brothers, A.J. Keen and Dillard Keene.
She is survived by a daughter, Tanya Austin Sebring and husband John of Louisville, Ky.; sons, Bascom Slemp “Pete” Austin Jr. and wife Brenda of Bluefield, Va., Patrick (Rick) Keen and wife Melissa of Concord, N.C., special son, Jerry Patrick of Ormond Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Christopher Austin and wife Gi Gi of Bluefield, Va., Heather Austin Morton and husband Paul of Lexington, Ky., Hanna Keen and Jay Keen of Concord, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Austin Cooper Morton and Chloe Morton; brothers, Jack Keene and wife Selena of Elkton, Md., Bob Keene and wife Judy of Cliffield, Va.; sisters, Virgie Roberts of North Tazewell, Va., Clogene Armstrong and husband Mike of Lawrenceville, Ga.; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today (Monday), Jan. 28, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Va. with the Rev. Ray Amos and the Rev. Brad Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Grandview Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Hal Keene, Randy Keene, Josh Keene, Josh Sutherland, C.B. Price, Mike Keene, Randy Collins and Jeremy Keene.
Friends visited with the family Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
