ABINGDON, Va. —
Orrin P. “Dick” Amburn, age 78, died Wednesday, January 9, 2013 in Clearwater, Fla. where he was visiting his daughter, Mary Amburn Ladue.
Born July 21, 1934 in Bluefield, Va., he was the son of the late Preston S. and Ada Mae Davis Amburn. Shortly after graduating from Graham High School in 1952, he entered the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the USS Formoe. Upon discharge, he made his home in Waterford, Conn. and was self-employed as a cross-country truck driver. In November 2011, he moved to Abingdon, Va. where he lived with his son, Raymond Amburn and wife Lisia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Ann Marie Amburn; two brothers, Preston S. Amburn Jr. and Edward B. Amburn and two sisters, Ruby K. Amburn Land and Ada Mae “Pat” Dodson.
In addition to his daughter and son, he is survived by grandchildren, A.J. Amburn and wife, Julie, Tara Amburn, Rebecca Ladue, Lawrence Ladue, one great-granddaughter, Taylor Grace Amburn, and one great-grandson, Jack Ladue; as well as one brother, David Amburn, and two sisters, Doris Amburn Tabor and Bonnie Amburn Weiser. There is a host of nieces and nephews in Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Oklahoma, and Florida left to cherish memories of their “Uncle Dick.”
Committal services were conducted in Clearwater, Fla. where he was laid to rest beside his daughter.
