Clint D. “Big Rob” Roberts, of 2610 Grassy Branch Road Bluefield, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013 at his residence. Born June 25, 1917 in Trade, Tenn., he was a son of the late James and Veda Warren Roberts.
Big Rob, as he was affectionately known on the railroad, worked as a brakeman for over forty years with N & W Railroad Company. He was of the Protestant faith and loved music, gardening and collecting train memorabilia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 5 brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Alice Burchette Roberts; sons, Clint D. Roberts Jr. and his wife Carolyn of Abbs Valley, Va., Lawrence Roberts and his wife Patricia of Bluefield, Va.; daughters, Patty Roberts of Rehoboth Beach, Del., Clintina Taft and her husband Gary of Marianna, Fla. and Charlene Kamp and her husband Jim of Jordanville, N.Y.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday Jan. 19, 2013 at 2 p.m. from Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Reginald Blakewood officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Princeton. The family will receive friends on Saturday from noon until service time.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Amedisys Hospice of Bluefield, 3879 Maple Acres Road Bluefield, WV 24701.
