CEDAR BLUFF, Va. —
Homer Edward (Ed) Lowe, age 87, of the Baptist Valley section of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, went to be with the Lord after fighting the Good Fight of Faith, Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, Tennessee.
He was born in Clincho, Virginia and was the son of the late Charlie and Ethel Gilbert Lowe formerly of Russell County. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Seaman First Class in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. He was awarded the American Area, European African and Victory Ribbons. He was a member of the Baptist Valley Assembly of God for 47 years and had worked as a coal miner for Olga Coal Company in Caretta, W.Va. and was a member of the UMWA Local #6026 of Caretta, W.Va. for 43 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Powers and Pauline Barton; son-in-law, Douglas Johnson Sr.
Those who remain to carry on his spirit are: His precious loving wife of 66 years, Dora Bell Stevens Lowe of Baptist Valley, Va.; daughters: Linda Cordill and husband Harold (Tank) of Bland, Va., Mildred Keene and husband Earl of Baptist Valley, Va.; son: James Lowe and wife Sandra of Richlands, Va.; sisters: Delphine Altice of Vinton, Va. and Mildred Ryland of South Hill, Va.; half-sister, Mary Ann Webb of Honaker, Va.; grandchildren: Rev. Doug Johnson and wife Crystal of Chesapeake, Ohio, Keith Johnson and wife Suzie of Richmond, Va., Brian Lowe of Athalia, Ohio, Bridget Gallahan and husband Jon of Chesterfield, Va.; great-grandchildren: Lauren Brooke Johnson, Corey Alexander Johnson, Grant Isaac Gallahan and Keira Noelle Johnson; special caregivers: Staff of the Dialysis Center in Lebanon, Va. and Chores and Errands of Richlands, Va. He is also survived by a host of family and friends and will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services for Homer Lowe will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Reverends Douglas Johnson, Max Linkous, Seth White, Buddy Herald, Rick Herald and Jimi Watson officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Don Baker, Brian Lowe, Keith Johnson, Jon Gallahan, Bobby Alicie, Joe Baldwin and Harold Osborne.
The family will be accepting friends at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home on Monday from 6-9 p.m. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640.
