ANAWALT —
Ms. Dorothy L. “Polly” Ross, age 85, of (P.O. Box 203) Anawalt, WV 24808 peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Princeton Community Hospital.
She was born October 9, 1927 in Pageton, W.Va. and the daughter of the late George Ross Sr. and Mamie Hagwood Ross. She was a graduate of Gary District High School and a life long resident of Anawalt. She was a homemaker and had worked at the McDowell Public Library in Welch, W.Va., was an employee of “Green Thumb” and for the past 13 years a foster grandparent at Anawalt Elementary School through the Council of Southern Mountains. For many years she was a faithful member of Mt. Bethel United Holiness Church in Anawalt, where she served as an usher and worked on the Kitchen committee. Her most favorite pastimes were spent gardening, mowing her lawn and working crossword puzzles.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, George Jr., Amos and Leon Ross and one granddaughter, Latoya Nicholas. Dorothy was the last surviving member of her original family.
She is survived by her four children: Nathan M. Ross of Charlotte, N.C., Albert E. Ross Sr. of Radford, Va., Melvin D. Ross Sr. and wife, Charlotte of Wolfe, W.Va., and Debra R. Johnson and husband, Alfred of Anawalt; nine grandchildren: Tanisha, Aneres, Monica, Albert Jr., Erica “Nicole,” Melvin Jr., Kevin, Nadia and Cherrion; 17 great-grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces and cousins; her Church family, neighbors and friends; which includes three special ladies in her life, Sandra Ross of Charlotte, N.C., Linda Brown of Bluefield, W.Va., and Patricia Shaw of Premier, W.Va.
Home going Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Mt. Bethel United Holiness Church, 314 Bernice Avenue, Anawalt, W.Va. with Pastor Virginia Rucker officiating, assisted by the Elders, Lafreeda Calloway, Marquinta Cox and Elizabeth Fitzgerald and Minister Janice Powell presiding. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens on Route 20, Littlesburg Road in Bluewell, W.Va.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., until time of service on Saturday at the church.
Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch.
