ROCK —
George Washington Taylor, 88, of Rock, died Saturday, December 22, 2012 at his home. Born December 27, 1923 in Bluefield, he was the son of the late L.F. Taylor and Mattie Worley Taylor.
Mr. Taylor attended the Rock Assembly of God at Lake Shawnee. He loved to play the guitar and harmonica and played on a radio show. He worked on the railroad in Pennsylvania and the N&W Railroad in Princeton for 38 years. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Virginia Williams Taylor in 1991; one son, Rick Taylor; granddaughter, Kimberly Hale; one sister, Edna Taylor; and four brothers, Kenneth Taylor, Donald Taylor, Billy Taylor and Eugene Taylor.
Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Hylton of Princeton, Kathy Taylor of the home and Charlotte White and her husband Chris of Bluefield; two sons, Michael Taylor of the home and Marty Taylor and his wife Heather of Princeton; nine grandchildren, Christian White, Donald Pendergrass and his wife Brandy, Cara Pendergrass, Justin Pendergrass and his fiancée Megan Shamblin, Eddie Hylton, Melissa Hylton, Patrick Taylor, Stacey Taylor and Jesse Taylor; three step-grandchildren, Jo Jo Beckner, Amber Neal and Morgan Nelson.; and 11 great-grandchildren and one due in August.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Ralph Calfee officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Family will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 26, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
