THOMPSON VALLEY, Va. —
Robert S. Marrs, age 75, of Thompson Valley, Va. passed away Monday, October 29, 2012 while a patient at Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tenn. He was born August 12, 1937 in Tazewell County, Va. and was a son of the late Charley Maxwell Marrs and Mary Belle Bandy Marrs.
Robert was a 1956 graduate of Tazewell High School and a 1957 graduate of Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Ill. Mr. Marrs had worked for many years as an electrician for Dossfork Coal Company and had also been employed by Diebold Banking. He was a veteran of the Mississippi Air National Guard. Bob was a member of a Jackson Mississippi Masonic Lodge, and had volunteered with the Tazewell Community Hospital Auxiliary; however his heart was with his Lord, his family and his Church. Bob was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Thompson Valley, Va., where he enjoyed the Saturday morning “Men's Fellowship Breakfast” and was active in many roles in the Church. He enjoyed mowing grass and meeting people. He was a mentor to many, and a great example of a Christian man. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant son, Charles Randall Marrs, one brother, Reese Edward Marrs Sr.
Those left to cherish his memories include his loving wife, Peggy W. Marrs; one daughter, Donna Marrs Jackson and husband, Steven of Ft. Chiswell, Va.; one son, William “Brad” Marrs and wife, Darlene of North Tazewell, Va.; one sister, Rachel Mulkey and husband, Kenneth of North Tazewell, Va.; two grandchildren, Haley Elizabeth Jackson and Hunter Lewis Jackson, both of Ft. Chiswell, Va.; special nephew, Reese Marrs Jr. of Land -O -Lakes, Fla.; nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends also survive.
Funeral services for Robert S. Marrs will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Tazewell, Va. with the Rev. Danielle Jenkins and Brother Chris White officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. Pallbearers will be Michael Mulkey, Kenneth Mulkey Sr., Kenneth Mulkey Jr., Steven Jackson, Reese Marrs Jr., and Gene Harris. The men of the “Saturday Morning Men's Fellowship Breakfast” will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2012.
