NORTH TAZEWELL, Va. —
Robert Jack McCall, age 85, of North Tazewell, Va., arrived in Heaven to lead the Angelic Choirs on Friday morning, October 12, 2012. He was born September 10, 1927, in Thompson Valley, Va. and was a son of the late Fred and Ethel Wimmer McCall.
He was a member of the Huff Memorial Missionary Church in Tazewell, Va. He had worked for 48 and one-half years for area coal companies and was a member of the United Mine Workers No. 2322 at Amonate, Va. Mr. McCall had also operated an oil furnace and repair business. He had lovingly maintained and repaired the facilities of the Tazewell Christian Academy for more than thirty years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Ray McCall.
Those left to cherish his memories include his loving wife of 67 years, Cora “Chippie” Griffith McCall; one son, Ronald Jack McCall and wife, Connie of North Tazewell, Va.; one daughter, Connie Cyphers and husband, Jerry of Lebanon, Pa.; three grandsons, Tim McCall, John McCall and wife, Vickey, and Justin McCall and wife, Jessika all of Tazewell, Va.; two granddaughters, Melissa McCall-Burton and husband, Jeff of Abingdon, Va., and Susanna Cyphers Shuey and husband, Lance of Bernville, Pa.; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Reese, Anson, Evan and Ethan; several nieces and nephews and other family members and many friends also survive.
Funeral services to honor his life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2012 at the Hurst–Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with the Reverend Jonah Sparks, the Reverend Doug Beauregard, and the Reverend Terry Rick officiating. Music will be provided by his favorite quartet, “The Primitives”. Instrumental music will be provided by Harold Brown, pianist, and Susanna Shuey flutist. A special duet on CD will be provided by Mr. McCall and his first granddaughter, Melissa McCall-Burton. Burial will follow at the McCall Cemetery, which he lovingly cared for all his life, located on McCall Ridge – Grassy Spur Road, near Laurel Fork of Dix Creek and Bishop, Va. Pallbearers will be George Bowlick, Johnny Griffith, Melissa McCall-Burton, Tim McCall, John McCall, and Justin McCall. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Cyphers, Eddie Hall, Jeff Burton, Lance Shuey and Byron Kulchar.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening, October 14, 2012 from 6–9 p.m.
