ATHENS. —
Virginia Johnson “Jenny” Walker, 92, of the Athens Road near Athens died peacefully Saturday evening, October 6, 2012 at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.
Born July 31, 1920, at Narrows, Va., she was the daughter of the late George William Johnson and Lillian Hash Johnson.
Jenny was an active longtime member of Melrose Presbyterian Church near Princeton. In addition to attending, she served as a greeter, scripture reader, worked on various fellowship dinners, and was involved with the shoe box project for needy children around the world at Christmas. She worked diligently with Melrose Elementary school in assisting students of need with clothing and other matters as well.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
For those that were blessed in knowing Jenny, they knew how much she loved life, loved to dance, and her travel bags were always packed and ready to travel. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
While her husband Basil's health permitted, they enjoyed spending time at their beach home in Murrells Inlet, S.C.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Basil B. Walker, along with two sons-in-law: Wayne Hopkins and Benny Alvis, and all of her siblings: Lawrence Johnson, Josephine Johnson, Arnold Johnson and Lewis King Johnson.
She will be lovingly remembered by her five children, Carolyn W. Buckland and husband Marshall of Peterstown, Gloria J.
