ELGOOD —
James A. Worrell, 86, of Little Island Creek near Elgood, died Monday, October 8, 2012 at his residence. Born July 19, 1926 in Camp Creek, W.Va., he was the son of the late Lloyd Worrell and Ellen Abshire Worrell.
James was formerly employed by the West Virginia Department of Highways and as custodian at Concord University, later retiring as a custodian at Athens High School as well as maintaining the family farm at Little Island Creek. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II as a Military Policeman. James was of the Baptist faith, was a lifelong resident of Mercer County, and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary W. Eads and Grace Lengyel; one brother, Robert Worrell; stepfather, Walter Worrell; and half brother, David Worrell.
Survivors include two sons, Walter R. Worrell and wife Teresa of Bluefield and James “Jimbo” Worrell Jr. and companion Patty of Green Valley; three daughters, Patricia A. McClung and husband Dexter of Athens, Betty Jo Worrell, and Terry Lynne Curry and Tony all of Little Island Creek; five grandchildren, Walter Livingston, Jeffrey Livingston, Michael Worrell, Kevin McClung, and Austin McClung; four great-grandchildren, Jeffrey P. Livingston, Rachael Livingston, Alexis Nicole Worrell and Tyler Livingston; former wife and mother of his children, Lilly Worrell of Lerona; several nieces and nephews including two special nephews, Wayne Worrell and Danny Eads and wife Sandra; and special friend, Bennie Ferguson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at the G.E. Davis Chapel of Fredeking Funeral Service in Oakvale with Pastor Charlton Coburn officiating. At James' request, his body will be cremated following the service. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until the service hour on Wednesday.
