CEDAR BLUFF, Va. — Mrs. Mary Sue Cox, age 71, of Cedar Bluff, Va., passed away peacefully Thursday, March 18, 2010 in a Claypool Hill, Va. retirement home following a lengthy illness. She was born in Tazewell County and was the daughter of the late William A. Vandyke and Lucy Alene Caudill Vandyke McCoy. She was a lifelong resident of the Cedar Bluff area and was a former librarian assistant at the Richlands Public Library. She was a graduate of Richlands High School Class of 1956 and member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church in Richlands, Va. She was a past recipient of the Richlands Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award. She had a heart of gold and loved to help others when she was able. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gene E. Cox. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors are two daughters, Connie Getz of Roanoke, Va., Gina Lucas and husband, Jeffrey of Landenberg, Pa.; three grandchildren, Robby Getz, Thea Lucas, and Victoria Lucas. Funeral services for Mary Sue Cox will be conducted Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gethsemane Baptist Church in Richlands, Va. with the Reverend James Denton officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gethsemane Baptist Church, 2902 Clinch Street, Richlands, VA 24641.
