LONG BEACH, Calif. — Elizabeth Blevins Roncaglione, age 91, of Long Beach, Calif., formerly of Tazewell, Va., died Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Long Beach, Calif. Born January 24, 1919 at Seaboard, Va., she was a daughter of the late Allen and Betty Hogston Blevins. Mrs. Roncaglione had worked as a teacher and reading specialist in the West Virginia school system for over twenty-eight years, having spent most of her life in West Virginia. After her husband’s death in Morgantown, W.Va., she had made her home in Tazewell, Va., Port St. Lucie, Fla. and Long Beach, Calif. She received her education from Concord University and the University of West Virginia where she received her Masters degree. She was of the Methodist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard M. Roncaglione, Sr.; five sisters, Hess Farmer, Ruth Starling, Viola Sims, Less Marrs and Betty B. Morefield; three brothers, Bruce, Patrick, and Bill Blevins; one daughter-in-law, Shirley Roncaglione.
Survivors include her son, Howard M. Roncaglione, Jr. of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; her daughter, Susan D. Roncaglione Hagar and husband, Terry of Long Beach, Calif.; four grandchildren, Christie Jordan, Patrick Hagar, Howard M. Roncaglione, III, and Rebecca Hardison; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews, and many other family members and family friends.
Funeral services for Elizabeth Blevins Roncaglione will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with the Reverend Danny Starling officiating. Burial will follow at the Plateau Historical Cemetery, Woods Ave. in Oak Hill, W.Va. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2010.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations of a new or used book be made to a local library in honor of the many years Mrs. Roncaglione taught reading.
