CLAYPOOL HILL, Va. —
Crockett J. “Tiny” Thompson Jr., age, 80 of East Cumberland Road, Bluefield, W.Va., died Tuesday Nov. 6, 2012 at a Tazewell, Va. hospital. Born January 28, 1932 in Bluefield, W.Va. he was a son of the late Crockett J. Thompson Sr. and Mona Meadows Thompson, and his lifelong mother Blanche Armentrout Thompson.
Tiny was a U.S. Army veteran of the 82nd. Airborne, and was a well known news broadcaster for over 30 years with WHIS / WVVA TV station in Bluefield where he served as news anchor and news director, and for many years was the emcee of the local Jerry Lewis March of Dimes Telethon's. He later served as Director of Safety and Security at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. An entrepreneur, Tiny was the owner of businesses, including Merchants Security Patrol and Enterprise Limousine Service. In addition to his parents and lifelong mother, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Gibson Sutphin.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Daniely Thompson; sons, Michael A. Thompson and his wife, Chris of Tazewell, Va., twins Randall V. Thompson and his wife, Dr. Kathleen Stadler-Thompson of Christiansburg, Va. and Richard J. Thompson and wife, Teressa, of Wytheville, Va.; grandchildren, Bradley Jason Thompson and wife, Reagan, Kelli Lowe and husband, David, Jamie Annette Remines and husband, Jared, Justin Alan Thompson and wife, Hailey, of Radford Va.; five great-grandchildren and his beloved pet Abby.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday Nov. 9, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with David Lowe and Dr. Jim Hagy Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Princeton, W.Va. where family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
