BLUEFIELD, Va. —
James D. “Jim” Shrader, 83, of 1934 Kimball Ave., Bluefield, Va., passed away, Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012 at his home.
He was born Aug. 28, 1929 in Bluefield and was a son of the late David Johnson Shrader and Lena Lillian Hager Shrader.
Jim was a member and Deacon of the Springville Christian Church where he was Sunday School Superintendent, sang in the choir and was on the Board of Trustees. Jim’s favorite thing to do was to sing Gospel music. He was retired from the Aramark Uniform Co. in Bluefield, Va. after 37 years and 4 months of service and was plant manager.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict in Germany from February 1951-1956.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Puckett and by brothers, Hayden Shrader and Carl Shrader.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Wilburn Shrader; daughter, Rhonda Peery and husband Rick of California; son, John Keith Shrader and fiancée Sandy O’Connor and her son, Austin O’Connor of Bluefield, W.Va.; brother, Earl Eugene Shrader and wife Kathleen of Springville, Va.; sisters, Louise Cooper of Durham, N.C., Betty Brinkley and husband Lee of Wildwood, Fla.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Va. with Johnnie Elmore officiating. Burial will follow in the Grandview Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Harry Yates, Quent Baria, Kenny Puckett, Jim Waddle, Austin O’Connor and Larry Shrader.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until hour of service.
Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va. is serving the James D. “Jim” Shrader family.
