PRINCETON —
Edna D. Meadows Richmond, 97, of HC 71, Princeton, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 at the Rockin' Chair Residential Care Home in Lerona. Born at Dunns, she was the daughter of the late Erastus Burl and Lottie Mae Lilly Meadows. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Dayton D. Richmond; siblings, Love Meadows, Champ Burl “John” Meadows, and Corda E. Meadows Akers; and several nieces and nephews.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Aunt Edna was a life-long member of the Mountain Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Dunns and a long-standing member of Mt. Jackson Baptist Church in Athens. She was a very faithful member who loved her Lord and enjoyed singing Gospel Music to the end of her days.
Educated in Mercer County, she was very proud of receiving her diploma in New York. She had also attended WVU. She was strong-willed, high spirited, fun-loving and extremely quick-witted. She was the proud wife of a coal miner and enjoyed camping, fishing, cooking, gardening and sight-seeing. Aunt Edna will always be remembered for her famous fried apple pies and her love for her nieces and nephews, referring to them as “her children.” She loved to travel and have fellowship with her many friends, neighbors, family and church family. Aunt Edna couldn't wait for the next reunion, family gathering or homecoming. She is now at the “most awesome reunion and homecoming imaginable!”
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2012 at the Rowland H. Bailey Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Reverend Charley Rice officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
