ATHENS —
It was a run-derful day on Sunday for the Concord baseball team, which concluded its home debut weekend by taking two games from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
The Mountain Lions won 6-5 in the first game. Concord (5-5) managed only two hits but IUP made four errors, and their pitchers walked four CU batters and put three more on base by hitting them with pitches.
In the series finale, Joe Camp batted 5 for 6 for Concord, which smacked 24 hits as a team and cruised to a 25-13 victory — the most runs scored by CU in a single game since 2007.
Concord took three of four games from Indiana (1-3).
Concord rallied from an early 2-0 deficit with a six-run fourth inning, then turned to reliever Will Zuspan for a save when IUP had two runners on base in the seventh inning of a one-run game. Zuspan forced David McNeil to hit into a fielder’s choice for the final out.
Starter Tyler Coyle (1-0) went 5 2/3 innings and earned the win, pitching out of bases-loaded jams in the second and third innings.
The Mountain Lions scored 13 unanswered runs in the first four innings of the second game, which took more than 3 hours and 40 minutes to complete.
Tyler Zimm started on the mound for Concord and earned the win, allowing four hits and two runs in five innings. The final two innings for CU were pitched by Richlands graduate James Patton and freshman Austin Southcott, a Princeton graduate.
Bret Blevins was 3-for-5 with three doubles in game two and is now batting .447 with three stolen bases. Jacob Mays, who was 3-for-6 Sunday, has earned eight walks and has been hit by pitches nine times. Charlie Goss was 3-for-5, scored five runs and drove in two more.
