PRINCETON —
Scoring on its first three possessions, Princeton never looked back in a convincing 45-22 win over St. Albans Friday night.
The victory broke a six-game losing skid for the Tigers, and featured 416 yards of total offense.
The Tigers’ Tahj Johnson skirted the left side on a pair of five-yard, first-quarter touchdown runs. Zen Clements snagged a Jay Palmer aerial for a 44-yard score, and Princeton led 21-0 after one period.
The Tigers’ defense limited St. Albans to 61 first-half yards and defensive end Justice Shafer made a big play in the second quarter. He stripped the ball from Red Dragons running back Drew Kirby, and returned the fumble 42 yards for the touchdown.
Princeton’s Austin Smith nailed a 23-yard field goal on the final play of the half, and Princeton led 31-0 at the break.
Johnson scored his third touchdown of the game, this one a 43-yard run, midway through the third period, and Princeton stretched its lead to 38-zip.
Noah Reed helped St. Albans rally a bit with a pair of touchdown passes. They were a 63-yard connection to Kyle Boles and a 43-yard scoring aerial to Terrell Lovejoy.
St. Albans had cut the spread to 38-14 early in the fourth period. The Tigers’ Lamont Lee answered with an 85-yard TD kickoff return and St. Albans closed the scoring on Kirby’s five-yard run.
Princeton, 1-6, travels to Spring Valley next Friday.
