Staff report

CHENGDU, China — The West Virginia Blazers were determined to have a better showing in their second and final game in China — and that they did.

Coming off a 50-point loss to the Beijing Olympians on Saturday, the Blazers made the Chinese squad work for a 112-89 win on Sunday.

Coryon Ross had 31 points, Chris Nichols 15, Chawn Martin 11, and Corey Love 11 for the Blazers. The Blazers used their speed to make the taller Olympians run at their pace.

Former L.A. Lakers player and leading scorer for the Oympians, Sun Yue, was held to 29 points, versus the 45 scored in Saturday’s game. Three other Olympian players scored double digits to seal the win.

Cindy Preast, general manager of the Blazers, said, “The Olympians are a first class organization and a great basketball team and the Blazers are honored to have played agaist them in their country. They have been exceptional hosts.”

The Blazers were scheduled to head home to West Virginia on Monday.

Preast said they will be “taking with them a wonderful experince and the knowledge that the sport of basketball speaks a universal language.”
