Princeton Senior League plays for state baseball title

CHARLESTON — —  Alex Quick drove home Brandon Cehen with a single in the bottom of the seventh inning, leading the Princeton 16-and-under All-Stars to a 9-8 win over Charlestown on Wednesday night at the University of Charleston.

Princeton will play Logan for the state championship today at 6 p.m.

Corey Quick drove in two runs in the sixth to tie the score at 8-8, and then Quick brought in Cehen from second base for the win.

Donnie Robbins led Princeton with three hits, two runs batted in and a run scored. Alex Quick and Matt Hatfield had two hits and an RBI apiece, while Quick also scored two runs. Jacob Mills scored three runs, and Robbins scored the plate once.

Seth Rose, who won the game in relief of Jon Shoda, also had a two-run double for Princeton.

Princeton 6, Hurricane 1

Four Princeton pitchers combined on a two-hitter and the 16-and-under club defeated Hurricane 6-1 on Tuesday to advance to the West Virginia Senior League state tournament semifinals.

Robbins, Hatfield, Rose and Christopher Otey surrendered just two hits and struck out 13 Hurricane batters. Rose and Hatfield each had five strikeouts, while Otey had three.

Shoda led Princeton at the plate with two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Jack Hickman tripled and Rose doubled in the win. Brad Fox and Hatfield had singles, while Otey, Fox and Jacob drove in a run apiece.

Alex Quick, Rose and Otey each scored a run, while Robbins had a stolen base.
