BECKLEY —
Three of the four schools in the Class AA-A state soccer tournament slated for next weekend are the same on the boys and girls side.
The only difference are the two local teams qualified for the state semifinals next Friday at the YMCA Carter Family Foundation Stadium in Beckley.
Bluefield (15-5-2) won a 3-2 four-overtime thriller over Pocahontas County to capture the Region 3 championship last Thursday, and the Beavers’ boys will play Fairmont Senior (14-5-4) on Friday 30 minutes after Charleston Catholic (21-0-2) and Bridgeport (15-4-2) meet at 9:30 a.m.
The winners will meet for the championship on Saturday at 11 a.m.
PikeView’s girls soccer team reached the state tournament for a third time in the last four seasons with a 3-2 win over Pocahontas County in the Region 3 championship last Thursday.
PikeView (16-4-2) will play Fairmont Senior (14-8-1) on Friday 30 minutes after the opening game between Charleston Catholic (15-5-2) and Bridgeport (17-4-1) in the girls opener at 4:30 p.m.
The winners will meet for the state title on Saturday, 45 minutes after the boys championship game.
