Schram homers in win

BLUEFIELD — The Bluefield Orioles scored eight runs in the second inning, and held off the Bristol White Sox 11-8 in front of 987 spectators that stayed late to watch fireworks on Saturday night at Bowen Field.

Concord University product Greyson Schram hit a solo home run for the Orioles. He had two hits on the night.

Jonathan Schoop led Bluefield’s 15-hit attack with two doubles and a single, scored two runs and drove in three more. Schram, Corey Thomas, Dudley Leonora, Chris Clinton and Cody Young had two hits apiece.

Clinton joined Schoop with three runs batted in, while Thomas added two.

Bristol, which had 11 hits, scored five runs in the third and two in the fourth to narrow the margin to 8-7. Drew Lee homered and drove in three runs for the Sox.

Cory Ast, one of six Bluefield pitchers in the game, picked up the win. Sam Tavares recorded his third save on the season.

Bluefield (19-38) will begin a three-game series with Elizabethton tonight at Bowen Field. First pitch is slated for 6.

Johnson City 7, Princeton 1

PRINCETON — The playoff hopes of the Princeton Rays continue to suffer, dropping its third straight game to the Cardinals in the home finale in front of 851 spectators on Saturday night at Hunnicutt Field.

Johnson City (36-20) collected seven hits and took advantage of four Princeton errors.

Romulo Ruiz led the Cardinals with three hits and scored three runs, while Kleininger Teran drove in a pair of runs with a double. Four Johnson City pitchers scattered four hits, with Jeff Nadeau getting his first win of the season.

Todd Glaesman had a double and scored a run for Princeton. Hector Guevara and Felix Gonzalez also doubled, and Jeff Malm added a single.  

Andrew Bellatti took the loss, allowing five earned run and three walks in 3 1/3 innings.

Kevin Kiermeier was chosen as the most popular Princeton player in voting done by the fans.

Princeton (27-30), which spends its final 10 games of the season on the road, will begin a series today at Greeneville.
