BASEBALL

PRINCETON — The 2010 Greater Princeton Little League Fall League is being formed for ages 9-16. Players must not turn 17 before May 1, 2011. There is a $20 registration fee per player. BASKETBALL

BLUEFIELD — Upward Sports basketball will be held at Edgemont Baptist Church, with practice beginning on Dec. 6, with games starting on Jan. 8. Upward Sports, which mixes teaching basketball skills and values for life, is for boys and girls, ages kindergarten through sixth grade. The deadline for registration is Nov. 11. BLOCK PARTY

BRADSHAW — A public celebration for the opening of the new River View High School will take place on Saturday, Aug. 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the school parking lot in Bradshaw. The “Meet the Raiders Block Party” will include free food, music and door prizes, and inflatables to play on. The football team, coaching staff, band and cheerleaders will be introduced.

BLUEFIELD — The Beavers Kickoff Block Party, sponsored by the Bluefield High School Athletic Boosters, will be held on Thursday, Aug. 26, in the historic Commercial Bank building on Commerce Street. The meet-and-greet session will start at 6:30 p.m. and last for two hours. Players and coaches will be available for photo and autograph requests. PRINCETON — The second annual Princeton Middle School Grid-o-Rama will be held on Aug. 28 at Hunnicutt Stadium. The schedule includes Princeton vs. New Martinsville (noon), Princeton vs. Wyoming East (1 p.m.), Beckley Park vs. New Martinsville (2 p.m.), Wyoming East vs. Beckley Park (3 p.m), Mount View vs. PikeView (4 p.m.), Peterstown vs. PikeView (5 p.m.) and Peterstown vs. Mount View (6 p.m.). The cost is $3, and concessions will be available.

RICHLANDS, Va. — Tickets to Richlands High School football games can be purchased from Tuesday through Friday at Annie's Attic in the Magic City Shopping Center.  Buying tickets in advance to alleviate long lines at the gate. Tickets are $6 apiece.

FAN DAY / COLLEGE SCRIMMAGES

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Virginia Tech will hold an open scrimmage at Lane Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 21, starting at 2 p.m. Concession stands and the bookstore souvenir shop will be open only on the west side of the stadium.

MORGANTOWN — The West Virginia Mountaineers’ football team will hold its annual Fan Day on Sunday, August 22, starting at 2 p.m. in the Caperton Indoor Practice Facility. PEP RALLY

TAZEWELL, Va. — There will be a community pep rally for all Tazewell High School sports teams on Thursday, Aug. 26, at 6 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium. Teams involved will include football, cross country, golf and volleyball, along with the cheerleaders and band members. It will be hosted by Larry Hypes, the “Voice” of the Bulldogs. Everyone is invited to attend this free event.

RUNNING

NARROWS, Va. — The 4th annual Giles County 5K Run/2-mile Walk will be held on Saturday, Aug. 21, at Ragsdale Field. The cost is $15 in advance, or $20 on the day of the race, with registration starting at 7 a.m., with the event beginning at 8. Cash awards for the top male and female overall and masters (40-over) winners. Top finishers in numerous age groups will also receive awards. TAZEWELL, Va. — The first Run5Kelly 5K run and 1-mile walk will be held on Oct. 2 at Tazewell High School. Fees for adults, 19 and over are $25 in advance, or $35 on the day of the race. The fees are $15 or $25 on the day of the race. Run packets can be found at the Four Seasons YMCA on Oct. 1 or an hour prior to the race start at 8:30 a.m. the following morning. VOLLEYBALL

BLUEFIELD — Bluefield State is hosting a pair of fundraisers to raise money to travel for a tournament next month in Florida. The Lady Blues will host a  clinic on Saturday, Aug. 21, in the Ned Shott Gymnasium at BSC. The middle school session will be at 9 a.m-noon, with high school students rom 2-5 p.m. The cost is $20 per person. The Blues will also host a 3-on-3 volleyball tournament on Aug. 26-27 for a cost of $5 per person. BSC coach Katherine Ward is also offered private clinics for local schools.
