PULASKI, Va. —
Blake Snell continued his torrid pace for Princeton, picking up the afternoon win in a 6-5 win for the Rays over Pulaski on Wednesday in front of 1,875 spectators at Calfee Park.
Snell, who was the Appalachian League Pitcher of the Week to start the season, is now 2-0 with an 0.51 ERA. A first round draft choice in 2010, Snell has allowed just six hits and one earned run while striking out 24 in 17 2/3 innings on the mound.
Princeton improved to 10-6, and are now tied for first place with Danville.
Eight of nine Rays’ collected hits, led by Willie Argo, who collected two doubles, a single, three runs scored and drove in a run. Omar Narvaez and John Alexander each had two hits for Princeton, which was out-hit by the Mariners 13-12. Alexander had a triple, and drove in two runs.
Snell allowed four hits and one run in five innings on the mound. Zach Butler worked two scoreless frames in relief. The Mariners scored four runs over the final three innings off Kevin Brandt and Jonathan Weaver to narrow a 6-1 deficit to one run.
Martin Pequero led Pulaski (5-10) with three hits, while Tyler Marlette and Jordy Lara had hits apiece. Jochi Ogando dropped to 0-2 on the season.
Princeton will visit Pulaski in each of the next two nights, returning home on Saturday to play Danville.
