BLUEFIELD —
One night after losing the lead and the game with two out in the ninth inning, the Bluefield Blue Jays returned to the diamond and downed the Pulaski Mariners 2-1, Monday evening. at Bowen Field.
The Jays jumped on top 1-0 in the third only to see Pulaski knot the game at one apiece in the top of the sixth. Bluefield broke the tie in the bottom of the seventh and held on for the win.
Seth Conner and Nico Taylor each had a pair of hits for the Blue Jays and Conner had an RBI. Bluefield’s other RBI went to Jorge Vega-Rosado, who had a single in the game. Art Charles and Taylor scored Bluefield’s runs.
Roberto Osuna picked up the win for Bluefield in relief of starter Jeremy Gabryszwski. who pitched four innings of no-run, three hit baseball. Osuna worked three innings, gave up one run on three hits and struck out four. Julio Carmona worked the eighth and ninth to earn the save.
Wander Marte started for Pulaski, pitched five innings and struck out nine Blue Jays. Isliexel Gonzalez suffered the loss as he worked the final three innings for the Mariners, allowing one run on three hits.
Brock Hebert and Tyler Marlette each had two hits for Pulaski.
The teams conclude their three game series tonight at Bowen Field, first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
