For the second time this season, Marshall freshman Hassan Whiteside has been chosen as the Conference USA Rookie of the Week. Whiteside, right, came off the bench to average 11.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and five steals as Marshall won a pair of games to improve to 7-1 on the season.

Virginia Tech forward Jeff Allen has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week. Allen averaged 18.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists as the Hokies ran their record to 8-1 with a home win over VMI and a road victory at Penn State.

West Virginia freshman women’s basketball player Asya Bussie has been named the Big East Freshman of the Week. Bussie led the Mountaineers to a pair of wins last week, averaging 13 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocked shots in victories against Eastern Kentucky and Longwood.
