Graham wins tri-match over Mercer County schools

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Ten Graham wrestlers won both of their matches to lead Graham to a pair of wins in a tri-match over Princeton and PikeView on Tuesday night at Graham High School.

Graham defeated Princeton 66-10 and PikeView 78-6. Princeton defeated the Panthers in a match between second-year programs 45-18.

Dustin Hagerman (103 pounds), Heath Browning (112), Casey Justics (119), Heath Hartley (125), Caleb Cline (130), Larry Hagerman (140), Johnny David (145), Greg Skeens (152), Tanner Howell (160) and Austin Bokish (171).

Princeton was led by Sean Rivera (215), Cody Blankenship (275) and Dalton Bowman (189). PikeView’s lone win over Graham came from Jordan White.

Graham (2-0) will travel to Damascus, Va., for the Holston Invitational on Dec. 19.



Princeton, PikeView in Beckley

SHADY SPRING — Wrestlers from both Princeton and PikeView participated in the 33rd annual Beckley Newspaper Invitiational on Saturday at Shady Spring High School.

Princeton finished ninth out of 20 teams with 53 points, while the Panthers were 10th with 40 points. Parkersburg South won the team trophy on Saturday, followed by Shady Spring.

Chris Greer (4th, 103 pounds) and Shawn Rivera (3rd place, 215) were the lone Tigers to place among the top four in their weight classes.

Dalton Bowman didn’t place among the top four, but did finish the day with a 2-2 mark in the 189-pound weight class for head coach Brett Bowyer.

PikeView, which is coached by James Barbery, also placed two in the top four, including Shane Farmer (4th, 160) and Jordan White (4th, 189), who posted a 3-2 mark on the afternoon.

Farmer had a pair of pins for the Panthers, including one in 44 seconds against Huntington’s Brandon Mays.

Princeton and PikeView competed in a quad match with Graham and Fort Chiswell on Tuesday night in Bluefield.

Bluefield, which travels today for a tri-match with Shady Spring and Nicholas County, will be led this season by football standout Jake Lilly, who placed sixth in the Class AA in his weight division.
