PRINCETON — For the second straight year, the Concord women’s soccer team (12-6-0) and West Virginia Wesleyan (12-6-1) will face off on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Buckhannon for the West Virginia Conference championship.
Concord bumped off top-seeded Davis & Elkins 3-2 in a Friday semifinal. Late-game goals by Kelsey Ballard and Kate Armentrout snapped a 1-1 tie, which was created in the first 35 minutes of play.
Concord jumped to a 1-0 lead as Nicole Dirnagl took an assist from Elin Torstenssen for a goal less than three minutes into the match. Meredith Greives got both of D&E;’s goals, the last one in the final minute.
Last season, Wesleyan earned the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament by outlasting CU 4-3 in penalty kicks following a scoreless tie. This season, Wesleyan beat CU 2-1 in double overtime on Oct. 12, with both goals by Ashley Dragos.
