BURLINGTON, N.C. — No. 1 draft choice Tim Beckham hit his first professional home run, leading the Princeton Rays to a 3-0 Appalachian League win over the Burlington Royals on Tuesday night at Burlington Athletic Stadium.
Beckham and Burt Reynolds hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning off Burlington starter Giancarlo De La Cruz.
Alexander Colume allowed just one hit, struck out six and walked just one in four innings for the Rays, while Angel Chapa went three frames, surrendering one hits, striking out two and walking two. Michael Jarman
Princeton (18-30)had five hits, including a double by Mayo Acosta. Elias Otero doubled and scored in the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Acosta.
Both of Burlington’s hits came from Yeldrys Molina, who had a double and single. De La Cruz was the hard-luck loser for the Royals (17-36), allowing just four hits, but two home runs in five frames.

PULASKI, Va. — Kenny Moreland scattered seven hits through seven innings, while striking out seven, leading the Bluefield Orioles to a 2-0 win over the Pulaski Mariners.
Bluefield (25-28) scored the game’s only run in the fifth on a bases-loaded ground out by Bobby Stevens and an RBI single from Elvin Polanco.
Six different Orioles had a hit apiece, including a double by Ronnie Welty, while Moreland earned the win.
Moreland improved to 5-3, while Patrick Kantekevich recorded his third save, pitching two innings, allowing one hit while striking out three.
Gabriel Noriega led the Mariners (33-21) with a pair of doubles.
